Autographic Design: Unveiling the Materiality of Data in a Self-Inscribing World
Professor Dietmar Offenhuber introduced his latest work, “Autographic Design – the Matter of Data in a Self-Inscribing World,” published by MIT Press, at the CAMD Center for Design. Autographic design, as explored in the book, is a methodology that emphasizes accountability in data collection through tangible traces. This approach draws inspiration from the practices of grassroots scientists, environmental activists, and amateur forensic investigators. The fundamental premise underlying autographic design is the recognition that data possesses materiality, challenging the traditional perception of data as an abstract entity.
