Tiffany Joseph, associate professor of sociology, anthropology, and international affairs has been awarded the 2019 Senior Ford Foundation Fellowship to continue her work researching healthcare access for immigrants.  Her work studying immigration populations in the Boston area has raised concerns about how immigrants’ participation in public assistance programs like Medicaid can be used to penalize their application for citizenship.  With the Trump administration looking to roll out yet more anti-immigrant legislation, Joseph seeks to draw attention to the ways healthcare accessibility on paper is not necessarily healthcare accessibility in practice.
