Edgar Goluch, Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering is working to develop a faster way for veterinarians to test for bacterial infections.  Usually the full cycle of taking a sample, sending it to a lab, and receiving results takes days, but Goluch’s method would get results in minutes.  The result of a lab discovery, this new business venture, called QSM Diagnostics, is powered by a partnership with Northeastern’s IDEA.  Currently, their product is for testing urinary tract infections in cats and dogs, but he is confident that it will have useful applications for diagnosing humans and identifying a wider range of bacteria in animals and people.
